Dear customers and friends,
We have exciting news to share. After years of development and refinement, EventStudyMetrics has reached a stage of maturity at which it serves as a swiss-army knife for event study analyses. Students and researchers around the world have supported us and are actively using our software in numerous seminars, theses, and research projects. This makes us insanely proud and we are very grateful for your loyality and support over the years.
Having built such a strong base of users and supporters, we have decided to take EventStudyMetrics to the next level. In 2019, we will be open-sourcing the software and thereby make it available to an even larger userbase — entirely free of charge. We are not yet ready to share details, but we are in advanced talks with a university that will host the code and maintain the server infrastructure needed for such a project. This repository will also host the code basis for an even richer version of EventStudyMetrics, which also covers cross-sectional regessions, logit analyses, and more and we are thrilled to develop it further with the help of the academic community.
This decision also implies that we will be sunsetting the commercial part of EventStudyMetrics towards the end of this year. If you are planning to buy a license at our webshop (which comes with technical support), please do so until December, 31. Existing customers will receive technical support beyond this date, but we will not be selling new licenses.
We will keep you posted about the progress of setting up the open-source infrastructure. You can expect the software to be available free of charge in the first half of 2019.
In the meantime, thank you so much again for your support. Happy holidays and all the best for the new year!
The EventStudyMetrics team
